Playground slide recalled
Playworld recalls the stainless slides because of an amputation hazard.

Playworld Systems and the Consumer Product Safety Commission announced the recall of 1,300 Lightning Slides after determining that the stainless steel equipment may contain a broken weld linked to the injuries.

The recall comes after 13 reported incidents of broken welds, two of which resulted in children having their fingers amputated.

The slides contain welds on both sides that attach the bedway (the piece you sit on) to the sides.

According to Playworld, the weld between the slide bedway and sidewall can crack and separate. If this occurs, a child's fingers can get caught in the space, posing an amputation hazard.

The slides were primarily sold to parks, schools, and municipalities from Nov. 2000 to Oct. 2016.

Records show only one of the slides in North Carolina at a playground in Albemarle. Officials said that slide is being replaced with a plastic model.

Playworld urges consumers not to use the slides until a free replacement slide is installed by the company. In the meantime, the company will ship a temporary barrier to prevent children from using the slide.

Consumers can call Playworld at 1-800-233-8404 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, send email to infoplayworld.com or visit https://playworld.com/ and click on "Slide Recall Safety Information" for more information.
