Stem police chief crashes in pursuit of two motorcycles

A Stem police officer was injured in a chase involving two motorcycles.

STEM (WTVD) -- The police chief of a Granville County town was injured when he crashed into a tree while involved in a chase with two motorcycles.



According to Granville County Sheriff Brindell Wilkins, the Sheriff's Office was assisting the Stem Police Department with the chase Tuesday night.



The motorcycles sped past a road block set up by deputies and the Stem chief, Mike Beal, crashed into a tree just south of Hester Road on Highway 15.



Beal was taken to Duke Hospital with multiple injuries.



The motorcycles kept going into Creedmoor and got away.



Later, one of the motorcycles was found on I-85 in Durham, Wilkins said.



No other details were immediately available.
