Police identify motorcyclist arrested following chase
Police said 20-year-old David Ashkenazi, from New York, was spotted speeding through a residential community Monday.

FOUR OAKS, N.C. (WTVD) -- A Four Oaks officer, whose cruiser flipped and landed upside down while speeding after a suspect Tuesday, is now out of the hospital. There was a high speed chase that spanned two counties.

Officer Matt Peedin cruiser flipped during a crash and he was pinned inside.

Peedin is now home recouping. He was released from WakeMed Tuesday following a head injury. Four Oaks Police Chief Stephen Anderson said the 27-year-old officer is doing well.

The chase spanned two counties. It started in Newton Grove and ended in Four Oaks.

"He never stopped. Just wouldn't stop," said Newton Grove Police Chief Frankie Harrell.

Police said 20-year-old David Ashkenazi, from New York, was spotted speeding through a residential community. Instead of pulling over for the lights and sirens, police said Ashkenazi took off in his newly purchased motorcycle.

"He didn't have a registration plate on it, and he didn't have insurance on it. I think were his main reasons for continuing to try and get away," said Harrell. "He put a lot of people in danger. A lot of people for nothing really."

When the chase came to an end, two patrol cars wrecked.

Ashkenazi is now facing a number of charges, including felony fleeing to elude arrest. He is being held at the Sampson County Detention Center, at last report.
