DURHAM (WTVD) -- Senator Richard Burr is spending time talking to people across North Carolina during the Congressional August recess. He stopped by ABC11 and answered questions from Steve Daniels about terrorism threats facing North Carolina, what he's learning from Donald Trump's popularity and what he likes most and least about his job.

Senator Burr gives Eyewitness News a real-time view of terrorism threats facing North Carolina.

Steve: When you get those daily reports, you see that intelligence coming in, the threats facing America, what keeps you up at night?

Burr: What's not in the report, what I don't know.

Steve: Are you concerned that North Carolina is a target?

Burr: North Carolina is a target, but the FBI has active investigations currently on in 50 states, but when you see communities like Raleigh like Charlotte, when you see bases like Camp Lejeune, Seymour Johnson, Fort Bragg, I think it's safe to say that they are regularly surveilled and this is really where you need the public's help and when you see somebody that takes pictures of a tall building or of the gate at a base, that is really important information, that we may not be seeing.

A new Fox News poll shows 25% of Republican voters across America support Donald Trump. Senator Burr thinks elected leaders need to take note.

Steve: You see this as a referendum on the public's discontent with what's happening in Washington.

Burr: Well I think certainly it's the only way you can take it right now. We've reached a new height at the dislike and distrust people have of Washington and elected officials in general.

Steve: What does that tell you about the way you need to conduct yourself with your constituents here in North Carolina?

Burr: I'm not the only one frustrated with the lack of progress in Washington. I've got to go back and remind our leadership, the American people expect us to accomplish things and anything short of that really isn't acceptable.

What Senator Burr likes most and least about his job:

Steve: Senator you are in your second term, you're looking at your third term what do you like most about your job?

Burr: Coming home on the weekends. The job is a tough one, we've got tough decisions to make. My best time is when I get to come home and I get to see that human face behind the issues I work on.

Steve: What do you like least about your job?

Burr: The fact that it's in Washington and that it can't be in North Carolina.

Steve: What do you find so frustrating about Washington?

Burr: Solutions are very difficult to achieve. Some of it's by design, some of it's a lack of will.
