Several cars in Durham apartment complex targeted by thieves

DURHAM, N.C. (WTVD) -- Several cars in a Durham apartment complex appear to be targeted by thieves.

Nearly a dozen vehicles with their windows broken at the Bentley Ridge apartments off Highway 55 in south Durham.

ABC11 has reached out to Durham police to see if they have any suspects. They responded with the following statement:

We can confirm numerous vehicle break-ins have recently been reported in the Durham area. The incidents are being actively investigated by our department's Criminal Investigations Division. The unit is canvassing the area in an effort to locate any available video footage that could assist with the investigation. Durham Police are also urging residents to contact us immediately if they observe any suspicious vehicles or activity in their neighborhood by calling 911.

In 2024, there were more than 3,400 motor vehicle break-ins in Durham.

Durham Police's third quarter crime report shows overall violent crime is reportedly down compared to 2024.

The report also shows property crime is also decreasing in the Bull City.
