DURHAM, N.C. (WTVD) -- A bomb threat prompted an evacuation Monday morning at Research Triangle Charter Academy in Durham.
The campus, located on Ellis Road, was cleared shortly after 7:30 a.m. as Durham police responded and began an investigation. Students and staff were safely evacuated and later reunited with their families at Marketplace at Ellis Crossing, less than half a mile from the school.
Authorities remained on scene for more than two hours.
For many parents, the incident brought both concern and disruption.
"Just a little bit nervous," said parent Brandon Marsh. "I think the school is doing everything they can do. I definitely feel for the parents who made may have had to go to work or drop their kid off and then come back. Fortunately, I'm able to keep him with me and we're just going to go back home."
The investigation remains ongoing. School staff will stay at the reunification site until all students have been picked up. The school serves students in kindergarten through eighth grade.
