NC State friendship turns into thriving brand featured at RDU

RALEIGH, N.C. (WTVD) -- Travelers passing through Raleigh-Durham International Airport may notice new T-shirts and stickers featuring the Raleigh and Durham skylines.

The merchandise comes from Brooks Designs Co., a business founded more than a decade ago by two NC State University students.

Graphic design majors and friends Megan Fowler and Amanda Pearlswig launched the brand while they were still in college. The company's name is a nod to Brooks Hall, the campus building where many of their design classes were held.

The idea grew after Pearlswig began working part-time at DECO, a gift shop in downtown Raleigh. She noticed the store had limited Raleigh-themed merchandise and saw an opportunity.

Brooks Designs Co. has since expanded its product line to include T-shirts and other items now sold at Root & Branch inside RDU Airport.

Their work has also been showcased on a national stage. In 2022, several of their designs were featured as ornaments on the U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree when North Carolina was selected to provide the tree for the holiday display.
