Burlington police: 2 charged after shots fired into occupied home

BURLINGTON, N.C. (WTVD) -- Two men are in custody after a shooting was reported at a Burlington home early Saturday morning.

The Burlington Police Department responded around 3:15 a.m. to a home in the 2300 block of May Drive after receiving a report of a shooting.

When officers arrived, they found Matthew Dale Thompson, 53, in the driveway. He complied with officers' instructions and was taken into custody without incident.

During the investigation, police found a firearm in Thompson's possession and illegal drugs inside the home.

Thompson is charged with:

  • Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill

  • Discharging a Firearm into Occupied Property

  • Discharging a Firearm within the City Limits

Christopher Edward Stamps, 39, is charged with:

  • Possession of a Schedule I Controlled Substance

  • Possession of Drug Paraphernalia

No injuries were reported, and police said there is no ongoing threat to the community.

Thompson and Stamps were denied bond and are being held at the Alamance County Detention Center.
