Man charged with murder after inmate dies following prison assault in Harnett County

LILLINGTON, N.C (WTVD) -- An inmate at Harnett Correctional Institution died early Saturday after authorities said he was assaulted by other inmates.

According to the Lillington Police Department, the incident happened shortly before 11 p.m. Friday in a dormitory at the prison.

Facility first responders and local EMS personnel treated the victim, identified as 29-year-old Christian Bridges, but he died on the way to a hospital shortly after midnight.

Lillington police charged Isaiah McKoy, 24, with first-degree murder in connection with Bridges' death.
