BUXTON, N.C. -- A damaged beachfront house collapsed in Buxton, North Carolina, after hazardous coastal conditions battered the Outer Banks on Tuesday, June 2.
Jenni Koontz of Epic Shutter Photography, who filmed the footage, said she flew her drone shortly before high tide and sunset to check on an already compromised house as rough surf pounded the coast, with flooding also visible along Highway 12 near the shoreline.
Koontz said the house collapsed shortly after she left the area at around 10:30 pm. She later returned to film what remained: almost nothing.
According to the National Weather Service, a coastal low brought gusty northerly winds, rough surf, thunderstorms and dangerous beach conditions to the area, while Buxton was also under a high rip current risk warning.
Dozens of homes have been lost in the Outer Banks in the past few years.
