Bride escapes fire in Colorado

CASTLE ROCK, COLORADO (WTVD) -- During an already stressful week, a bride-to-be escapes a fire just before her wedding day.

It happened in her third-story apartment in Castle Rock, Colorado.

Lenise Ruff and her maid of honor -- Marylin Kruc -- barely made it out alive. In fact, her best friend broke her back.

Kruc spent six days in the hospital, but she was determined to be there for her friend. So with the help of a walker she walked down the aisle.

Her best friend says the events of the week were a reminder of what really matters.

"Since then I've learned not to take anything too serious and surround yourself with people who love you and support you," Ruff said.

Kruc is expected to make a full recovery in the next few months.

As for the bride and her husband, they'll leave Sunday afternoon for Hawaii where they will spend their honeymoon.
