Durham Hunger Day serves as awareness about food insecurity: 'Nourishing our Neighbors'

DURHAM, N.C. (WTVD) -- People in the Bull City gathered for the annual Durham Hunger Day. It's a community celebration that raises awareness about food insecurity and the work being done to strengthen the city's food system.

Durham Hunger Day has become a tradition dedicated to highlighting the need to support organizations meeting the demand for food. The theme for 2026, "Nourishing Neighbors," showcased the many ways food brings people together through culture, community, and care.

"Durham Hunger Day is an opportunity to honor the remarkable work happening across Durham to support neighbors facing food insecurity. Each year, our community looks forward to this joyful event as a chance to share good food, reconnect, and learn about vital local resources," said Raina Goldstein Bunnag, Durham County Food Security Coordinator.

Organizers say the event is the vision and collaborative effort of numerous committed community organizations and Durham County Government.
