DURHAM, N.C. (WTVD) -- Authorities have arrested a Durham man in connection with a February shooting that left two people injured, according to the Durham County Sheriff's Office.
Arrest warrants were issued shortly after the Feb. 24 incident for Deonte Jemel Alston, 34, of Durham. Alston was also injured in the shooting and was hospitalized at the time. He has since been released from medical care and is now being held at the Durham County Detention Facility.
Alston faces charges of attempted first-degree murder, possession of a firearm by a felon, assault with a deadly weapon with a minor present, and failure to appear -- probation violation. He is being held without bond and is scheduled to make his first court appearance Tuesday.
The charges stem from an incident reported around 1 p.m. on Feb. 24, when a vehicle pulled into the parking area of the Durham County Sheriff's Office East Station in the 5300 block of NC 98/Wake Forest Highway. A passenger sought help for both occupants, who had apparent gunshot wounds, according to the sheriff's office. Both individuals were taken to a hospital for treatment.
Neal Middle School, located next to the sheriff's office property, briefly went into lockdown as a precaution. Officials later determined there was no threat to the school or surrounding area.
As part of the investigation, Wake Forest Highway was temporarily shut down between Baptist Road and Olive Branch Road.
