FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (WTVD) -- As the war in Iran enters its second week, tactical gear shops in Cumberland County are seeing a spike in business, with both companies and service members seeking protective equipment in response to the overseas conflict.
Local store owners say the surge in demand has been noticeable since the strikes began.
"It's about preparedness and being ready. This is what Fort Bragg prides itself on, is being ready for when the call comes," said Craig Black, owner of All American Military Surplus in Fayetteville. "That's where All American Military Surplus comes in."
Black told ABC11 that business has increased by 10% to 15% in the past three weeks, with most customers being service members, outdoor enthusiasts, and residents.

"We supply many items in our store for packing lists or for just their turn-in items or just readiness equipment. We go through our list every way, make sure we have a stack of what they need. So when they come through that door, they leave with what they're looking for. In the event they are needed for deployment, they have what they need, or for their additional training needs," Black said.
The owner noted that international companies are also investing in protective gear, further boosting sales. "We've had a pick-up in activity for our men and women coming in and buying from us. We've done a very good job in keeping the store supplied," Black said.
Among the most sought-after items are boots, body armor, helmets, tarps, weather gear, and sleeping systems.
"Tarps and maybe boots, that might be weather gear. It might be a sleeping system," Black said.
Despite the increased activity, officials told ABC News there are currently no orders or planned missions to send the 82nd Airborne Division to the Middle East. Still, Black said he is making sure his store is prepared should demand continue to rise.
