Fayetteville teen charged as adult in fatal house party shooting

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (WTVD) -- A juvenile from Fayetteville is facing a first-degree murder charge as an adult after a deadly shooting at a house party that left 18-year-old Harryson Anderson dead, according to court records and officials.

Justice Miller, 17, a student at Grays Creek High School, appeared in court Friday via webcam for the first time since being charged in the fatal shooting of Anderson. Miller is being held without bond.

The shooting occurred Saturday evening when Anderson and two friends, home for spring break, attended a house party.

According to an affidavit obtained by ABC11, Miller became involved in a verbal argument with another man at the gathering. When Anderson attempted to de-escalate the situation, authorities allege Miller struck Anderson with a handgun and then shot him twice.

"He was trying to contact me as he got shot. It just reached my heart. I called back, and I didn't get an answer." Nina Anderson, the victim's mother, told ABC11 on Thursday. The Anderson family is now trying to cope with the loss.

"I want my son to be remembered for the courage that he had, for the light that he showed," Julian Anderson, Harryson's father, told ABC11 on Thursday.

Officials said Miller was identified with the help of the community and other party attendees. He remains in custody at the Cumberland County Detention Center.
