Firefighters extinguish closet fire in Durham residence
DURHAM, N.C. (WTVD) -- The Durham Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire Saturday morning on Spring Street.
Officials received the call around 9:30 a.m. after a passerby reported seeing smoke coming from the residence.
When crews arrived, they observed smoke coming from the front of a single-story, single-family home. Based on information from the first-arriving unit, a battalion chief upgraded the response to a working fire.
Firefighters quickly located the fire inside a closet near the front of the home and brought it under control within a short period of time. A search of the residence found no occupants inside.
Neighbors told firefighters they believed the home was unoccupied at the time of the fire. Crews were unable to locate anyone associated with the residence in the area.
About 38 Durham Fire Department staff members responded to the scene, along with Durham County EMS and the Durham Police Department.
No injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
