Flames engulf home in Harnett County

The intense fire happened in a neighborhood near Strickland Lane and Keith Hills Road.

HARNETT COUNTY, N.C. (WTVD) -- Crews in Harnett County battled a fire that engulfed a home in Buies Creek on Wednesday afternoon.

Chopper 11 was over the scene as visible flames and thick, black smoke shot through the roof while fire crews worked to control the blaze.

It happened in a neighborhood near Strickland Lane and Keith Hills Road.

Officers at the scene described hearing ammunition exploding inside the burning home.

Firefighters on ladders and on the ground worked from different angles to get control of the intense fire.

The cause of the fire and whether there were any injuries remains unclear.
