The Geminid Meteor Shower peaks tonight

DURHAM, N.C. (WTVD) -- The Geminid Meteor Shower is one of the best shows in the night sky each year, and it peaks Sunday at 2 a.m.

Under ideal viewing conditions, dozens of these meteors can be seen in the night sky.

Just like with the auroras, meteor showers are best visible away from city lights. Here are some tips for the best viewing:

• Go somewhere completely dark with an unobstructed view of the sky
• Look overhead, after midnight, toward the constellation Gemini
• Let your eyes adjust to the dark sky

It can be hard to capture meteors on a phone, but with a professional camera, you can capture them in long exposure mode.
