GoRaleigh's busiest bus route breaks ridership record

RALEIGH, N.C. (WTVD) -- GoRaleigh's busiest bus route carried more than 1 million passengers last fiscal year.

It's the first time that's happened in the transit system's history.

Route 1 runs north from downtown Raleigh to Triangle Town Center via Capital Boulevard.

It's a busy corridor full of shops, businesses, apartments and neighborhoods.

GoRaleigh is crediting more frequent bus service for the increase in ridership.

Since October, buses run every 10 minutes instead of every 15.

The city's transportation manager, David Walker, said that led to a jump in riders.

He also said that Route 1 is likely the busiest bus route in North Carolina.

Overall, more than 7.8 million people used GoRaleigh last fiscal year. That's a nearly 3% increase from the previous year.
