Austin Thompson's legal team files motion to suppress statements

RALEIGH, N.C. -- The legal team for the teenager accused of killing five people in a Raleigh neighborhood has filed a new motion in the trial.

Austin Thompson's legal team filed a motion to suppress statements made by him after he was in custody.

Thompson was questioned by police after his team said he suffered a gunshot wound to the head.

His lawyers say he demonstrated symptoms of brain surgery and anything that he said should not be used as evidence.

Thompson's lawyers also say he was never read his miranda or juvenile rights.

He is charged with killing five people, including his brother and a Raleigh police officer in 2022 in the Hedingham neighborhood.

The trial is set to begin on February 2.
