KNIGHTDALE, N.C. (WTVD) -- A high-speed chase unfolded overnight Saturday in Wake County when the North Carolina State Highway Patrol tried to stop a speeding car on I-540.
The driver exited at Buffalo Road, reentered I-540, and later led troopers toward Knightdale on I-87, reaching speeds up to 112 mph.
After unsuccessful attempts to stop the car with rolling roadblocks and PIT maneuvers, troopers finally forced the vehicle off the road at Marks Creek Road and Knightdale Boulevard. The car overturned and caught fire after hitting a tree in a wooded area.
The driver was pinned inside, and emergency crews were dispatched around 12:30 a.m., though the fire was already out when they arrived.
The driver was suspected to be impaired and taken to a hospital with minor injuries, NCSHP confirmed with Eyewitness News.
