Horse rescued from frigid belly-deep water in Moore County

MOORE COUNTY, N.C. (WTVD) -- Firefighters and a company that specializes in servicing large animals helped rescue a horse from an icy pond on Monday in Moore County.

The Sandhills Sentinel shared images of the scene with ABC11, showing water up to the horse's belly.

The horse wasn't in danger of drowning, but hypothermia was a major concern.

Firefighters used long poles to break a path toward shore while also keeping the horse calm.

According to the Sentinel, a pony also joined the rescue efforts.

The horse's owner brought the pony to the bank to encourage the horse to keep moving.

Southern Pines Equine responded to the scene to check out the horse after it was back on dry land.
