FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (WTVD) -- It was lunchtime inside a Fayetteville gem that's been serving the community for almost 90 years. The Rainbow Restaurant served up delicious food and a variety of opinions from customers as President Donald Trump and the first lady, along with Secretary of War Pete Hegseth, visited with Fort Bragg soldiers.
"He's really for the military, and you know, we need that," said Delena Holcer.
Holcer, 73, was having lunch with her neighbor, who had turned into a friend. They catch up monthly over a hot meal, plenty of laughs, and good conversation. The topic of the day was politics.
Some of the things he's done, he promised. He's kept his promise.- Delena Holcer, diner
"Some of the things he's done, he promised. He's kept his promise," she said.
This was Trump's first visit to Fort Bragg since special operations soldiers headquartered on the military installation captured former Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro and his wife.
"Fantastic. That was quick. Well planned and executed," said Holcer.
Both of her daughters are veterans who were proud to serve, but one thing that doesn't sit well with her is the current political climate.
"I will always be a Republican. I'm for him 100%; however, things are a little iffy now, but I'm sure it'll work out in the end," she said.
So many lies are being told. That's not good for the country.- Katherine Harley, diner.
Across the restaurant, Katherine Harley and her husband, William, agreed that the current climate isn't the best. ABC11 caught up with them over liver and chicken meals.
"I am not happy with it at all because so many lies are being told. That's not good for the country," said Katherine Harley.
She said her husband's career in the military has helped raise her two sons. It took them on adventures across the globe. The couple has been married for 62 years.
"I will not trade my military life for anything, and the reason for that is we've just accomplished life. I'll put it that way," she said.
William is a Vietnam veteran who served for almost 30 years. He didn't want to share his perspective, but his wife was vocal enough about the president's visit for both of them.
"I couldn't care less. I really can. I'm being honest with you. I'm so disturbed about what's going on," said Katherine Harley.
Differing opinions, but Holcer and Harley enjoyed the same space and comfort food of the Rainbow Restaurant.
