DURHAM, N.C. (WTVD) -- More jobs are coming to Durham County.

Durham-based Aspida Financial Services will expand its global headquarters in Durham County.

Aspida will hire 1,000 workers during the next several years and invest more than $28 million. The company is based at 2327 Englert Drive, but will move into a new flagship space, which will be announced later. The announcement came at Wednesday's meeting of the State of North Carolina's Economic Investment Committee.

"On behalf of the Board of Commissioners, I am thrilled that Aspida is expanding (its) headquarters in Durham County," said Durham County Board of Commissioners Chair Nida Allam. "This impressive project advances a number of County goals and is the largest recruited jobs project to date. Aspida also brings an excitement to partner with Durham's workforce development community to support financial services career pathways."

Aspida was founded in 2020 and had more than $25 billion in assets as of June 30. Aspida focuses on a suite of annuity products and reinsurance solutions, and uses digital tools to simplify the process. The new facility is expected to support the continued growth of its technology, service, and operations teams.

"There is nothing more satisfying than being able to help a local organization expand in Durham," said Geoff Durham, President and CEO of the Greater Durham Chamber of Commerce. "Aspida cares about this community and will be offering great salaries to local people as they expand. We appreciate their support of the Durham Public Schools and other local community organizations, and we look forward to continued community partnerships."

The project will be facilitated, in part, by a 12-year Job Development Investment Grant (JDIG) awarded by the state. Officials estimate that the project will grow the state's economy by $5.5 billion.

"Aspida's expansion in our home city of Durham reinforces our commitment to the local community, and to our continued growth in North Carolina," said Lou Hensley, CEO and President of Aspida. "The Triangle's support of business advancement, expanding infrastructure, and heavy focus on technology create the right environment for our quickly growing organization to thrive. We are excited to continue to support the community in which we work and live."
