Homicide investigation underway after man's body found in wooded area of Edgecombe County

CONETOE, N.C. (WTVD) -- Edgecombe County deputies are investigating after a body was found in a wooded area near Conetoe.

Workers discovered the body on Tuesday morning.

Investigators identified the body as that of Kenneth Earl Wooten, of Pinetops.

Evidence suggests that this was a homicide, the sheriff's office said.

Detectives are asking for the public's help in tracking Wooten's whereabouts during the past 48 hours. Anyone who saw or spoke to him since Sunday is asked to please contact Detective Sgt. Johnson at (252) 801-3181.
