3 Wake County houses catch fire after lightning strikes during storms

RALEIGH, N.C. (WTVD) -- A round of severe storms has caused significant damage in Wake County.

Two homes were struck by lightning on Althorp Drive in north Raleigh off Louisburg Road. The lightning strikes caused fires, but there was minimal damage, fire officials said, and no injuries were reported. One family was displaced for the evening.

That same storm then trekked six miles north, causing damage to a home in Wake Forest.

It is believed that lightning also struck that home on Hidden Jewel Lane in the Heritage community and started a fire.

Most of the damage was to the roof, and the occupants have been displaced. No one was injured, fire officials said.
