
RALEIGH, N.C. (WTVD) -- Raleigh Police are investigating the crash of an overturned vehicle that left a man who had been reported missing dead.
Officers responded just before 4:30 p.m. on Monday and found a car off the roadway, down an embankment, and into the woods off the ramp from I-40 west to inbound Wade Avenue.
The driver, who was wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators said evidence showed that the vehicle was traveling at least 70 mph as it left the roadway and went airborne. The impact "caused severe intrusion into the driver's cabin," police said, and the driver was believed to have died on impact.
He was identified as Linwood Phillips, 48, who had been reported missing in . Cary.
The incident remains under investigation.
