Fayetteville police seek driver involved in deadly hit-and-run

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (WTVD) -- An arrest was made in connection with a hit-and-run in Fayetteville that left one person dead.

It happened last Friday around 8 p.m. near 71st School Road. Police say 19-year-old Kenyun Monte Johnson, of Fayetteville, was riding a mountain bike when he was struck and killed by a driver in a black car.

According to the Fayetteville Police Department, detectives reviewed video surveillance and identified the suspect vehicle as a black 2025 Toyota Corolla, which differed from the vehicle initially shown to the public for assistance.

The suspect, 24-year-old Khaleek Barnes of Fayetteville, was arrested and charged with felony hit-and-run. He is being held at the Cumberland County Detention Center without bond, and his first court appearance is scheduled for November 19.
