
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WTVD) -- A violent chain of events unfolded in Charlotte, North Carolina, on Thursday afternoon left a man dead following an apparent shootout with police.
The incident began with reports of an assault and shooting near the intersection of Hoskins Road and Black Avenue in the Freedom Division, leaving one person dead and another injured.
The suspect, identified as Joseph Andrade, 28, then allegedly forced his way into a nearby home, kidnapped someone, and sped off in a stolen car.
Police later located the stolen vehicle and initiated a pursuit, during which Andrade reportedly opened fire at officers. After abandoning the car, he continued to shoot at police, who returned fire, killing the suspect.
According to a press release, several CMPD vehicles were struck by gunfire during the incident, and a firearm was recovered at the scene.
No additional injuries were reported, though four officers were taken to a hospital for precautionary evaluations.
