Michael Jordan surprises ex-teacher in hospice care with phone call

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WTVD) -- An elderly woman in Wilmington is checking off one special bucket-list wish.

Lower Cape Fear LifeCare shared a social media post saying Ms. Etta is a hospice patient there, but many years ago, she was a high school teacher.

The nonprofit said she often talks about her time teaching and former students, but there was one name that kept coming up: Michael.

Ms. Etta said she wished just to be able to hug him one more time.

After several failed attempts to reach Michael, nurses said they got a call from an unknown number and heard, "Is this, Ms. Etta?"

It turns out that the Michael whom Ms. Etta was talking about was NBA legend Michael Jordan, who, of course, attended school in Wilmington.

The nurses helped Jordan and Ms. Etta connect on FaceTime, where they spent time on the phone laughing and reminiscing.
