MOORE COUNTY, N.C. (WTVD) -- A Moore County Sheriff's Office deputy was involved in a deadly overnight shooting.
Authorities said they received reports of a man firing a gun at cars driving by on Carthage Street in Cameron.
One vehicle was hit by the suspect, but the driver was not hit or injured.
When deputies arrived, the suspect, 52-year-old Harvey Franklin Hardy ran away and circled a nearby building with the deputy chasing after him.
That's when the sheriff's office said Hardy shot his gun at the deputy who returned fire hitting and killing Hardy.
The deputy was not injured.
The State Bureau of Investigation is now handling the case.
