Family safe after house catches fire when driver slams into it

ZEBULON, N.C. (WTVD) -- A family and their two cats are safe after a driver hit their home and caused it to catch fire early Monday morning.

According to the Zebulon Police Department, officers canvassing the area observed a driver speeding. A short time later saw that the driver had crashed into the front of a house on Franklin Street.

The house then caught fire and officers assisted in helping the family get out safely. Police say the five people and their two cats were inside the house when the driver hit it. The cats were also rescued and are unharmed.

The car involved was reported stolen out of Raleigh, police say.

Cartier Farmer, 19, is being held on a possession of a stolen motor vehicle charge. Farmer could be hit with more charges as the investigation is still underway.
