NC Made: Gather Good Co. is a hidden gem that serves as more than a gift shop in Cary
CARY, N.C. (WTVD) -- There's a cozy little shop nestled in a Wake County town and it is much more than a place to buy gifts.
Gather Goods Co. is a hidden gem that's right in the middle of downtown Cary. You can say it's a gift shop lover's dream. It is quaint and cozy on the outside and even better on the inside.
"So it's a very small space and I try to fill it as much as I can with these design goods. We carry about 25 products or 25 makers rather from North Carolina, although you'll find goods from everywhere, many of them are made by emerging makers like myself. But I also carry things, you know, from Portugal and glassware from, you know, India and things like that as well."
It's not just brick and mortar--Gather Goods Co. is an online store and brand.
Owner, entreprenuer and designer Michelle Smith. Sells her own products and she uses the space to foster community, by holding in store classes and workshops.
"That's actually been a really valuable and interesting component of the space because typically I feel like when you go to a store or a class, a lot of times there's a homogenization that happens and you tend to take classes with similar type people. But this space is very diverse, both, you know, from a racial perspective, but also from a background perspective and from an age group," Smith said.
She prides herself on everything in her store being thoughtful and intentional.
"I'm not just carrying things to carry things and carrying beautiful objects that will hopefully become heirloom quality goods in your home. Forever, or they will be items that you really use in your daily life and that bring you a sense of joy. So that is really the value and it is you know, there really aren't any stores like other goods co in the Triangle, but especially in Cary in particular, it's sort of a destination spot.
A destination spot that's proud to be North Carolina made.
