RALEIGH, N.C. (WTVD) -- It might seem like just another workout class but take a closer look -- and listen -- and you'll notice something special: 'She Moves Different.'
Created by Mitsy Hernandez, She Moves Different offers what she calls "pop-up luxury movement experiences" across the Triangle. These sessions include a 50-minute Pilates class followed by a confidence workshop.
Hernandez's journey began with her own love for Pilates.
"I fell in love with the way it exposed me to all my limiting beliefs about what my body could do," Hernandez shared with Eyewitness News. "But, the number one thing that I noticed was that was there was not enough women of color."
That realization inspired her to create She Moves Different. She started hosting pop-up Pilates classes featuring music she loves to work out to, like Cumbia and Reggaeton.
But it's not just about the workout. Hernandez aims to inspire and empower women to step out of their comfort zones and leave with more than just sore muscles.
"We introduce them to just feel comfortable in a space where they normally would not walk in," she said.
Many women are drawn to Pilates because they see it on social media, but they're often intimidated.
"There's just no one that looks like them," Hernandez said. "There's no one that's speaking their language."
Her workshops go beyond fitness, incorporating confidence coaching, journaling, sharing, and community building. The results have been life-changing for some participants -- three women started businesses after attending, and one even returned to college.
"My mission with She Moves Different is that women realize that the limitations that you have are limitations that you've placed on yourself," Hernandez said. "You can take up as much space as you want. You deserve to exist and take up space wherever you are."
The next few classes are 'Bad Bunny vs Don Omar' on October 19 and 'Halloween Mat Sculpt' on October 25.
