
ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. (WTVD) -- Rocky Mount is joining municipalities that are restricting water use due to the ongoing drought.
On Monday, the city implemented mandatory stage I water conservation measures. City leaders say the goal is to achieve a minimum 10 percent reduction in average daily water use to protect the water supply for essential needs. The Water Resources Department is recalling issued hydrant meters and suspending the issuance of new hydrant meters.
People who live in the city can irrigate lawns, shrubbery, and gardens no more than two times a week between the hours of 6:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. Irrigation can only be done with handheld devices, containers, drip irrigation systems, or automated sprinkler systems.

Customers with private irrigation wells are encouraged to follow the same conservation schedule.
Violations of Mandatory Conservation Measures are subject to civil penalties, including warning notices, monetary penalties, and potential termination of water service for repeat violations.
