Strong storm brings down trees; Lightning causes Wake Co. house fire
Firefighters responded to a house fire on Kendall Hill in Willow Spring after the residence was hit by lightning.

RALEIGH, N.C. (WTVD) -- Central North Carolina got hit with some severe storms on Thursday afternoon.

Heavy rain poured in downtown Raleigh, accompanied by strong winds and thunder.

Trees were reported down in spots across Wake County, Johnston County, Wilson County, and around Rocky Mount.

Some of those trees caused power outages.

The storm also affected southeastern Wake County.

Firefighters responded to a house fire in the 1600 block of Kendall Hill Road in Willow Spring.

The Fuquay-Varina fire chief said the home was hit by lightning.

No injuries were reported.

A second round of storms is expected in the area later Thursday evening. Some may form around midnight or shortly after.
