Fallen Wake County deputy Ned Byrd remembered 4 years after death
WAKE COUNTY, N.C. (WTVD) -- The Wake County Sheriff's Office is remembering Deputy Ned Byrd on the anniversary of his death.
On Tuesday, the sheriff's office posted a picture of the fallen deputy on social media.
Byrd was shot and killed in the line of duty on this date four years ago.
He had stopped to check on a suspicious vehicle near Battle Bridge Road and Auburn Knightdale Road in Raleigh when he was shot four times.
"Deputy Byrd was a U.S. Air Force veteran and served with the Wake County Sheriff's Office for 13 years, first as a detention officer, then as a deputy sheriff. He became a member of the K-9 team and was loved by all those he served with at the agency and in the community," WCSO wrote in a social media post. "Deputy Byrd's selfless service and sacrifice will never be forgotten."
Last year, two brothers, Alder Marin Sotelo and Arturo Marin-Sotelo pleaded guilty to killing Byrd. Both brothers were subsequently convicted.
