Outdoor watch parties are popping up across the Triangle ahead of a potentially historic night for Hurricanes fans - but the excitement is coming with a warning as dangerous heat lingers.
From Cary to Zebulon, and even outside Lenovo Center, "Caniacs" are making plans to gather and cheer on the Canes together. Downtown Raleigh is also getting in on the action, with one of the largest watch parties set for Red Hat Amphitheater.
"Lots of water and Gatorade" are topping the menu, as fans try to stay ahead of the heat.
Others are making last-minute stops at the team store, grabbing gear ahead of Game 6. Some fans were able to score tickets to an indoor watch party inside Lenovo Center, while others say they're heading to outdoor viewing spots across the area.
No matter the location, many say hydration is a top priority.
"Just making sure that you're staying hydrated, I think, is a big thing," said Michael Chambers of Winston-Salem. "A lot of fluid losses with the heat and sweating and humidity... it can kind of sneak up on you, especially for people that are partaking in any alcoholic beverages too."
Health experts warn that high temperatures and humidity can quickly lead to dehydration or heat-related illness, especially during long outdoor events.
For those planning to attend, here's what to know:
Fans are encouraged to drink plenty of water, take breaks in the shade and monitor how they're feeling throughout the event.
