Jon Dowding - Reporter at ABC11 WTVD
Jon Dowding joined the ABC11 Eyewitness News team as a reporter in August 2025 and is happy to call the Triangle home.

The New Jersey native has a passion for investigative, political, and bilingual storytelling.

Jon joined the Eyewitness News team after working as a senior multimedia journalist for News 12 Long Island. During his time at News 12, Jon utilized his bilingual reporting to break stories about the wage theft of Latino workers in the Hamptons and the impact of ICE arrests on Long Island. Jon earned an Emmy nomination for breaking a story about the impact that fake license plates being sold online had on a Long Island grandmother. His ongoing investigation into the issue caught the attention of New York Attorney General Letitia James, who took action against Amazon, stopping them from selling fake license plates to customers in New York.

Jon is excited to return to the south. He previously worked at WAVY-TV 10 in Norfolk, VA, as a reporter, MMJ, and weekend evening anchor. He got his start in television news as a digital multimedia journalist at WSAV-TV in Savannah, GA.

While at WAVY-TV 10 and WSAV News 3, he started digital news segments in Spanish, the first of its kind in both markets.

Jon earned his Master of Studies in Law with a Law and Government Graduate Certificate from the University of Southern California's Gould School of Law.

He attended Temple University in Philadelphia for his undergraduate degree, where he graduated Magna Cum Laude with degrees in journalism and Spanish.

Jon is a diehard Eagles fan - Go Birds!

Jon is a member of the National Association of Black Journalists, the Association of LGBTQ+ Journalists: NLGJA, and Kappa Tau Alpha.

He's excited to eat his way through restaurants across the Triangle and see all that the Tar Heel state has to offer.
