Driver crashes into Wake Co. reservoir after pursuit: sheriff

WENDELL, N.C. (WTVD) -- A man who led Wake County deputies on a chase was caught after he crashed into the Wake Forest Reservoir, the sheriff's office said Monday night.

The ordeal began around 8:25 p.m., when a deputy tried to pull over a vehicle at Edgemont Road and Hodge Road near Wendell. The driver refused to stop.

Deputies pursued the car to Wait Avenue and Traditions Grande Boulevard, where the driver lost control and crashed into the Wake Forest Reservoir.

The driver, Kawan Grant, 31, was arrested and then taken to a hospital to be evaluated. He is due in court Tuesday afternoon on charges of felony flee to elude arrest with a motor vehicle, felony littering over 500 pounds, misdemeanor resisting a public officer, and felony possession with intent to sell, deliver cocaine.

Authorities removed the car from the water Tuesday morning. The incident remains under investigation.
