Man dies after hours-long standoff in Knightdale neighborhood

KNIGHTDALE, N.C. (WTVD) -- A man is dead after an hours-long standoff between police in Knightdale on Sunday.

Officers responded to calls for a welfare check on Laurens Way in the Planter's Walk subdivision for what Knightdale Police Department described as a "mental health incident."

When officers arrived, they said a distraught man ran into the home.

Police said that after several hours, officers entered the home where they found the man's body.

Authorities said no other people were inside the home and no injuries were reported.
