Raleigh moped driver killed after being rear-ended by Jeep, police say

RALEIGH, N.C. (WTVD) -- A moped driver was killed Wednesday in a two-vehicle crash on Hammond Road, Raleigh Police said.

It happened just after 2:45 p.m.

Police said a 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee going north on Hammond Road rear-ended the moped, causing the operator to be ejected from the two-wheeled vehicle.

The man was then run over by the Jeep.

Police said Michael Ray Capers died as a result of his injuries.

The driver of the Jeep, 25-year-old Gabriela Perez Ortiz, failed to reduce speed, police said.

She remained at the scene. Investigators found no evidence of impairment but cited her for misdemeanor death by motor vehicle, failure to reduce speed, and no operator's license.

The incident remains under investigation.
