Raleigh's public transit expansion in focus at open house

RALEIGH, N.C. (WTVD) -- The city's effort to expand public transit are back in the spotlight as officials host another Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) open house Monday night.

Happening at Five Points Center for Active Adults, the event will focus on the northern corridor of the BRT system and its role in reducing congestion and improving connectivity.

Attendees will have the opportunity to provide feedback on current route options and learn the results of a recent study. The northern corridor is expected to connect key areas, including Triangle Town Center and Midtown.

Construction on the first BRT project is set to begin in November, with 10 stations planned along New Bern Avenue. The line is projected to be operational by the summer of 2030 -- five years later than initially anticipated.

The open house will run from 5 to 7 p.m.
