Raleigh PD warn of scam using fake "Shop with a Cop" donation requests

RALEIGH, N.C. (WTVD) -- Raleigh Police Department (RPD) is warning the community of an ongoing scam involving false claims about a Shop with a Cop donation drive.

What's happening?

RPD has received reports of scammers contacting people by phone, email, social media and mail, pretending to collect donations for Shop with a Cop. These individuals may ask for personal or financial information and attempt to appear legitimate.

What you should know

The police department does not solicit donations for Shop with a Cop and will never make threats or promises to community members in connection with this or any program.

How to protect yourself

Do not share personal or financial information with unsolicited callers or messages.

If possible, capture the phone number and record the call.

Do not click links or scam QR codes from emails or social media messages claiming to represent RPD.

Report suspicious activity

If you receive a suspicious request or believe you may have been targeted: Call 911 or click here to report the incident.
