Sampson Co. mom charged in crash that killed unrestrained 3-year-old

SAMPSON COUNTY, N.C. (WTVD) -- A Sampson County mother has been charged in a crash that killed her 3-year-old son and injured two other children.

Brittiney Nicole Simmons, 33, of Autryville, was accused of not securing her three children before the crash last Tuesday on Autry Mill Road near US 13.

All three children were thrown out of the Ford Expedition following the impact.

Walker Woods Lambert was killed. The other two children, ages 13 and 5, were rushed to hospitals. One was taken to WakeMed, the other airlifted to New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

Authorities said speed was likely a factor.

She faces numerous charges, including having no operator's license, not properly restraining a child younger than 16, and several charges related to her son's death.

Simmons is scheduled to appear in court on Dec. 5.
