Visitor shot in parking lot of UNC medical office building in Cary

CARY, N.C. (WTVD) -- The Cary Police Department (CPD) said it is still investigating a shooting in the parking lot of UNC Health's Panther Creek Medical office.

Officers responded to reports of a shooting around 1 p.m. Tuesday on McCrimmon Parkway. They found a man who had been shot. Police say the man was a visitor at the medical office.

Wednesday, police say, before shots were fired, there was a confrontation in the parking lot between two men. Both individuals pulled a gun, and one shot the other.

Police say the two know each other.

Police say the man who was shot remains in the hospital.

No charges have been filed in the investigation, yet, police say. Investigators say they are waiting to interview the man who was shot.

After the shooting on Tuesday, UNC Health closed clinics for the day. Releasing the statement below.

"All clinics in that building are closed for the rest of the day, and we will work to reschedule any patient appointments. Our top priority is always the safety and well-being of our patients, visitors and employees," a UNC Health spokesperson said.
