Parents, students get tour of new Raleigh elementary school
RALEIGH, N.C. (WTVD) -- As the new school year approaches, some students in Wake County are getting ready to attend class in a brand-new building.
Swift Creek Elementary School is set to open in time for the first day.
On Tuesday, parents and students got a chance to tour the new building.
The school was built on the site of the old school on Tryon Road in Raleigh.
It includes modern technology and new spaces for students and staff.

ABC11 spoke to the principal about the excitement to welcome back students.
"So, we have wonderful big, bright classrooms. And within each of those grade levels, there's a learning commons where students can come together and collaborate. Teachers have plenty of spaces to meet," said Principal Darrell Propst. "We are so thrilled. We can't wait to see these hallways filled with students and our families."
Construction of the school took about two years and cost about $40 million. The new school will hold about 500 students, and classes begin Aug. 24.
"The Swift Creek community is very proud of our school," Propst said. "And now they have a building that they could be proud of as well."
