Thom Tillis sets ambitious agenda as North Carolina lawmakers return to work
RALEIGH (WTVD) -- ABC11 got a sneak peek into the house Republican playbook Wednesday, and House Speaker and U.S. Senate candidate Thom Tillis laid out an ambitious agenda.
Tillis was very much looking like the leader of the pack Wednesday - with more than 50 house members gathered around him as he spelled out what Republicans in the House want to get done in the next couple months. That of course includes budgetary tweaks, which is what the short summer session is designed for, but also policy initiatives, many of which line up with both the governor's and the Senate's priorities.
Tillis' House priorities also include legislation on coal ash, more regulatory changes and turning the state commerce department into a public-private partnership. He wants this to be a very short session, which could mean wrapping up by the end of June.
Tillis says running for U.S. Senate won't affect his role as House Speaker. He says he can do both jobs well.
