YOUNGSVILLE, N.C. (WTVD) -- Tucked away in their Youngsville backyard, Victoria and Jody Smith have grown a small creative business they call Throw and Turn. The name reflects their partnership: Victoria works the pottery wheel, while Jody focuses on woodworking.
The business combines Jody's lifelong love of crafting with wood and Victoria's recently discovered passion for pottery.
Victoria said her interest began after she saw an ad for a pottery class and realized she didn't have a hobby of her own. After taking the class, she jumped in fully -- purchasing a wheel, a kiln and eventually selling her handmade pieces. Her enthusiasm soon inspired Jody to get involved, too.

Today, the couple creates collaborative pieces, including cake stands with wooden bases crafted by Jody and ceramic tops made by Victoria.
"Everything we make is food safe," Victoria said. "And all the pottery is dishwasher safe and oven safe, so everything is functional."
Their pieces are known not just for their practicality but also for their vibrant colors. Victoria said customers often comment on her bold palette -- something she believes helps her work stand out.
While Victoria crafts upstairs and Jody works downstairs, the pair has blended their talents into a growing business.
Most of their buyers are based in North Carolina, Victoria said, but many of the items end up being shipped to customers across the country.
