MORRISVILLE, N.C. (WTVD) -- As RDU prepares for the holiday travel season they want to make sure flyers have everything they need.
"This will be the first holiday season that the REAL ID requirement has been in effect. So we do recommend that you make sure you've got your REAL ID or some other federally approved form of identification," said Stephanie Hawco with RDU.
If you don't have the proper ID you could be grounded, but NCDMV is hoping that if you still need one it's not too much of a hassle.
"You can schedule an appointment seven days out. Or you can come in person as a walk in. And so we take walk-ins every single day from open to close, so you can arrive at, about the time we open around 7:00 and, check in and we'll send you a text when it's your turn, to come back to the office for service so you can get service the same day," said Marty Homan with NCDMV.
Now the one item that can always get you through security is your passport, but only 44% of North Carolinians have one. Which means to get in a plane you need a REAL ID, maybe.
As the video screens above TSA show Secretary Noem reminding us to have our REAL ID, a new program to sidestep the system may be coming.
The TSA published a new rule today that would allow you to go through a process to check your identification without a REAL ID, but it would cost $18 to do it and it's only good for 10 days.
This new procedure if approved would probably not go into effect until after the new year.
"We've we reached 50% well in advance of the implementation date. So we feel pretty good about where we are. But we know that there are more people out there that might want one," said Homan.
If you don't know what to bring to the DMV they have a quiz on their website.
"You can put in your information and answer a couple of questions, and we will tell you the documents that you need to bring on, because it can be a little different for everybody," added Homan.
Definitely another list you should check twice this holiday season.
